Our ElephantsEleAid has saved these seven wonderful elephants. Today they all live in the Elephant Nature Park in Northern Thailand Maximus - Max
Max is possibly the tallest elephant in Thailand. He towers over people and elephants alike, yet he is also one of the calmest and best-natured elephants we have met, a true gentle giant. Siam & Thai
Siam and Thai were the elephant members of the Bringing the Elephants Home Campaign. Mae Bua Tong & Sao Tong Jan
Mae Bua Tong (Miss Golden Lotus) and her daughter Sao Tong Jan (Little Golden Moon) were rescued on July 1st 2005. Mae Bua Tong had worked for many years in tourist camps. On Valentines Day 2005 she gave birth to a beautiful female calf named Tong Jan. Unfortunately soon after the birth Bua Tong was forced back to work giving tourist rides for up to six hours a day. The baby had to try to riun along to keep up with her mother and was not able to feed properly. Very quickly the health of both mother and baby began to suffer. They both started to get ill. EleAid was only able to rescue the couple thanks to an enormous donation from the Daniel’s family in London. The whole family gave exceptionally generous donations and Olivia Daniels sacrificed her 21st birthday present opting to put the money to saving these two wonderful elephant rather than have a gift for herself.
Mae Bia
Although EleAid suspects the validity of her papers (which show Mae Bia as being 85!) there is no doubt that she is an old lady. Mae Bia discovered by Lek in the Chiang Rai region. She worked in a trekking camp and was in such poor condition that even her owners thought she was unfit for work. EleAid were able to fund Mae Bia’s purchase thanks to a very generous donation from long time supporters Michael and Sheila Medlar. When she was rescued on 15th October 2005.poor Mae Bia was in a terrible condition. She was painfully thin and had numerous wounds around her head and neck where she had been abused by her mahout. She will never again have to endure such torment; safe at the Nature Park Mae Bia will now be able to live out her days in peace and security. Mae GaewMae Gaew has worked very hard her entire life. In her early years, she belonged to a Karen family and worked as a logging elephant in Thailand until the logging ban of 1990. After this took place, her owners were forced to sell her to Burmese logging and she remained in Burma for about 15 years. She was rescued in February 2007 after Lek spotted her working extremely hard in a trekking camp in Northern Thailand. With the support of the Trudy Broxap Memorial Fund, Lek was able to rescue her and bring her back to The Elephant Nature Park where her wounds from abuse are being cared for and she can spend the rest of her life doing exactly as pleases her.
