Why Asian Elephants?

Why does an elephant charity only help Asian elephants? This is a question EleAid is frequently asked. The reason is not prejudicial - African elephants are equally wonderful animals and are also under threat - but we have decided to concentrate our resources. While there are around half a million surviving African elephants, the Asian population is in a far more imperiled state with no more than 50,000 animals remaining.

The African elephant also has many excellent organisations working for its survival and we wish them well. All elephants are important.
